Nisswa native Chris started brewing beer in his garage several years ago and never looked back. With lots of help from family and friends, that brewing passion turned into Big Axe Brewing Company in downtown Nisswa. Chris grew up in Nisswa and went to Nisswa Elementary School across the street, and he always knew that Nisswa would be the perfect place to open a brewery. Big Axe opened on May 14, 2015, as a taproom only. In 2017, Big Axe integrated the kitchen/restaurant. Now Big Axe specializes in producing a variety of full-flavored, creative, and freshly crafted brews, root beer, and cream soda, while offering a fun, relaxing environment in which to enjoy them. The kitchen serves delicious soups, salads, burgers, and sandwiches as well as Walleye and BBQ Wings, Brisket, and Chicken.

Whether you’re catching up with an old friend or stopping by on a Friday after a hard week of work, you’ll find the company friendly, the food tasty, and the beer cold. We also offer off-sale growlers, crowlers, and a variety of great merchandise for sale.

We are dog-friendly on our patio, and we are kid-friendly everywhere. Our food and beer menus may change a bit from time to time (especially the beer), so please call ahead if there is a specific beer you’re after (218) 961-2337.
